Warning! Please Check With British Cycling if in Doubt
Many of banned drugs appear either alone or as mixtures in medication under a commercial title. It is thus essential that, should there be any doubt, expert advice should be sought by the competitor from a doctor, pharmacist or the Anti-Doping Officer of British Cycling Federation (contact details below) BEFORE taking any medication. The lack of the knowledge that a particular substance is banned shall not constitute grounds for any appeal against a charge in respect of a breach of the UCI or BCF Anti-Doping Regulations.
Checking Medication
You can check medication for yourself through the UK Sport website: http://www.didglobal.com
Therapeutic Use Exemptions
Therapeutic use exemption applications are available from British Cycling's Anti-Doping Officer direct or as downloads (see below).
Who needs a Therapeutic Exemption Certificate?
For riders competing in events in the UK under the jurisdiction of British Cycling the following applies:
Article 4.2 of British Cycling's Anti-Doping Regulations specifies which riders require a TUE prior to competing. These are athletes who have been notified that they are on an International or National testing pool. All others can, within 5 working days of testing, apply to UK Sport for a TUE if they are using a Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method to treat a documented medical condition.
Guidance on TUE Applications for Hayfever
UK Sport has received an increase in the number of TUE applications for the use of intramuscular steroid injections to treat Hay fever. Follow the link for the guidance note.
