National Development Officer- Volunteers                                                 Manchester

Up to £20k p.a.+benefits (depending on exp)

British Cycling is the internationally recognised governing body for cycling in the UK.  It is also one of the leading governing bodies across all sport in the UK, with 23,000 members who have access to a calendar of well over 2,500 events spread across 6 cycle sport disciplines.  With the London 2012 Olympics only 4 years away, British Cycling will be an exciting place to work, with the organisation at the centre of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to develop the sport.  British Cycling’s key to success is the delivery of its One Stop Plan, through employees who can work within our sport at all levels.  Our organisation is dynamic and growing.  Due to the rate of growth, we now have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, appropriately qualified individual to join our Go-Ride Development Team in the above role.

The post holder will support the co-ordination and delivery of the volunteer strategy throughout the Go-Ride programme.  The role will include working with key partners to develop and implement the volunteer strand of cycling’s National Development Plan.  Working closely with the National Development Manager, the post holder will support the development of existing and new resources to enable young people to develop their skills as young leaders through to specific roles within cycling such as coaching and / or officiating at events.

The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, planning and organisational skills, together with an understanding of how to develop processes to recruit, retain and support volunteers within cycling and through Sport England’s Step into Sport and running sports initiatives.  To succeed in this role you will ideally need a background in sports development preferably with a degree in a relevant subject.

The department consists of a small team and flexibility in working with others and getting involved in the whole of the department’s work at times of pressure is essential.  The post holder will be expected to play a full part in the activity of the department and perform other tasks appropriate to this level of responsibility.  There will be times when the post holder will be required to represent the department at internal and external meetings, collaborate with staff to develop policy and strategy and attend staff meetings and working groups including those with funding partners.

All of our permanent employees are automatically awarded Gold Membership of British Cycling.  Our hours of work are 37.5 per week, although weekend and evening work will sometimes be required.  Membership of the pension scheme is offered on completion of 6 months service.  British Cycling operates a salary sacrifice Childcare Voucher Scheme and Cycle to Work Scheme.  Free parking is available to all staff at the National Cycling Centre.
