Regional & Home Country Postcodes
British Cycling Regions
British Cycling recognises 10 key Regions within England plus Wales and Scotland. In 2006, the Competition Review Framework was introduced and a Members' Region became defined by where you live as opposed to the Region of your Club.
Since Regionalisation the UK postcode system has been used to administer the new Regional structure. National Council (Nov 06) stated that the current use of Postcode Areas was too broad an interpretation of the agreed Regional boundaries. After much consultation we have further defined the postcode system to create identifiable boundaries which reflect the existing Country / County / Regional boundaries as closely as realistically possible, as per National Council instruction.
By clicking on the links below you will find a complete list of the Postcode Areas (i.e. PO) which have been allocated to each Region. Where necessary this has been defined further by Postcode Districts (i.e. PO10) and Postcode Sectors (i.e. PO10 7) to ensure the highest level of accuracy.
FAQs
What is the significance of my Region?
Ranking points are available for individuals, Clubs and Regions at National level and for individuals and Clubs at Regional level. Regional Championships are also key to the Region, therefore knowing your Region is important.
I'm a student / am in the Armed Forces and therefore have two addresses, what Region will I be assigned to?
If you are a student or a member of the Armed Forces you can choose to select the Region associated with either your home address or your student accommodation / barracks as desired, however once decided you can not change again until membership renewal i.e. annually.
What happens if my Club is based in a different Region?
If your Club is based in a different Region, as an individual member you will still be assigned to a Region based on your home address. i.e. if your Club is in the North West but you live in Yorkshire, you will be assigned to the Yorkshire Region by default.
I'm a new member and have not joined a Club yet, what should I do?
You will be assigned to a Region based on your home address and you should then join, if you choose to, a Club which is ideally in the same Region.
