Stars and their rides! -Cycle Show presents the bikes that have conquered the world!

One cyclist who's about to make a comeback claimed 'it's not about the bike!" - try telling that to the thousands of people who will flock to Earls Court between 10th & 12th October for Cycle Show! As they walk the aisles of the country?s biggest trade and consumer cycling exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to see the machines that have carried some of the legends of the sport of cycling to victory this year across virtually every cycling discipline.

CERVELO P4 to make first UK appearance at Cycle Show: Having been unveiled at Interbike, this will be the first European appearance of the all new Cervelo P4. The all new bike, hotly anticipated and the product of an extensive and secretive design process at Cervelo HQ, will be on display at the Sigma Sport stand. A move that is sure to excite Triathletes and Time Triallists alike

Kings of the Road: Tour de France Winner Carlos Sastre's Cervelo R3-SL will undoubtedly be one of the most sought after exhibits on show at Cycle 08, see that bike at the Sigma Sport stand. As one of the sveltest riders in the Peloton this bike is sure to be one of the lightest in the show. Magnus Backstedt's Felt AR Team issue bike from Tour de France and Tour of Britain looks fast even before the big Swede climbs aboard In contrast to the bike of Sastre, this is all about speed and stiffness, see it on the Saddleback stand. Magnus himself will also be at the show every day. Winningest bike of the year must be the Giant of Mark Cavendish, see it, and if you get the chance touch it for luck on the Shimano stand.

Getting Dirty: Turning our attention off road, Britain has an embarrassing wealth of talent for the trails and the rigs that carry some of our leading riders to victory will be on display throughout the show. Courtesy of Madison you'll be able to see the Commencal World Championship winning bike of Gee Atherton, as well as Gee himself throughout the show. Also at the show will be the bikes that normally carry Steve Peat, Dan Atherton, Tracy Moseley and Matt Simmonds in their respective disciplines.

BMX Bandits: A nation gasped collectively as Shanaze Reade crashed out of the final of the BMX event at the Beijing Olympics, but in the style of a true champion she's picked herself up and looks forward now to London in 2012. See Shanaze's bike at the Shimano stand. Shanaze herself will be at the show to give tips to some of the next generation of cyclists too at the Bikeability schools day at the show on Friday 9th October.

On the right track: For most of the last 12 months, the man with the best view of Chris Hoy's unbeatable form on the track has been Dutchman Theo Bos. See the last bike to beat the flying Scotsman at the Shimano stand throughout the show.

World & Olympic Champ Nicole Cooke Heads Star Line-up at Cycle 08

20070109_Halfords_Launch__Cooke_200The organisers of Cycle 08 have announced that newly crowned world champion and Olympic Gold Medal winning cyclist Nicole Cooke will appear at the show on Sunday 12th October to meet the general public and promote her new book Cycle for Life.  The Welsh wonder was one of the star turns of last year's show, appearing on stage where she was interviewed by TV commentator Anthony McCrossan. Nicole showed what a good sport she is on that occasion by agreeing to take questions from the audience before spending time signing autographs for the fans

This year, as one of the heroes of Beijing, Nicole will be back at the show to share her experiences, making an appearance in the Cycle 08 Arena where she will be interviewed again before appearing at the stand of Kyle Cathie, her publishers, to sign copies of her new book. Also making an appearance at the show will be Nicole's gold medal winning bike, the Boardman Road Pro Race Prepared bike, designed by Chris Boardman for her and her sponsor, Halfords Bikehut.

Cycle for Life takes the experience and knowledge built up by Nicole throughout her cycling life and distills this into an easy to understand guide to all aspects of cycling from setting up your bike through to the basics of training. Whether you?re already a keen cyclist or just taking your first tentative steps in the sport, there?s something for everyone in Cycle for Life.

Nicole will appear at the Show on Sunday 12th October between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Bikeability taking Cycling Proficiency into the 21st Century

On Friday October 10th, at this year's Cycle Show, Bikeability will team up with Cycle 08 for the "Bikeability Schools' Day" - a unique chance for pupils and teachers to practice their Bikeability skills, get their wheels turning, watch fabulous displays and find out more about sustainable travel and cycling safely.

Bikeability is cycle training which gives the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. Almost half of children would prefer to travel to school by bike, but currently only 1% do so. Bikeability is designed to help them get in gear! The course is split into three levels - from basic bike handling skills, to riding on quiet roads, all the way to dealing with more complex traffic conditions.

School pupils and their teachers are invited to:

  • Participate in a Bikeability session and try the latest bikes on a test track
  • Follow the Bikeability Discovery Trail round Cycle 08, learn all about bike mechanics, cycle safety, and essential kit to get started on two wheels
  • Watch professional BMX riders pull off an awesome street display
  • Listen to world champions BMX rider Shanaze Reid & Olympic gold medalist Paul Manning giving their top tips for cycling with confidence
  • Enter a competition to win fantastic NEW Raleigh bikes

The Show - An Overview

20080916_cycle_08_earls_court_550

Earls Court hosts the Cycle 08 show

The show is an annual pilgrimage for many cyclists, offering as it does the best possible opportunity to see all the latest in cycling technology and more than a few personalities across the three days of the show from all branches of the sport.

This year the organisers have already confirmed that the ever popular 'Anglo-Swede' Magnus Backstedt will be appearing at the show with his Garmin-Chipotle team bike supplier Felt. In addition, the organisers will also have the Tour de France bikes of Carlos Sastre and David Millar on display along with those of world champions Gee Atherton and Shanaze Reade. The whole Atherton clan - Dan, Rachel & Gee - will also be present at the show over the weekend, signing autographs and taking part in Q&A in the Cycle Show arena.

If it's componentry you're after, this year marks a watershed in the history of the show with Campagnolo and Shimano having their own dedicated stands for the first time. Shimano will be showing their new Dura-Ace electric groupset whilst Campagnolo will have the first samples of their 11speed groupsets for the public to see. These two giants of the industry will be complemented by the presence of SRAM who will be there with their new UK distributor Saddleback and Mavic who will be showing their new range of clothing to the public alongside their better known range of wheels and rims.

As ever, interactivity is a big part of the show. The Mountain Bike Test Track returns again sponsored by Volvo and Tirol, giving you the chance to have sneak preview of some of the 2009 off road rigs from the leading manufacturers, whilst over on the Shimano stand we're promised the chance to try the new Dura-Ace Di2 componentry on static bikes. Regular fashion shows will showcase the leading apparel at the show and the Commuter Test Track will offer the chance to try out many different options for getting to work whether it's folding bikes, roadsters or electrically assisted bikes (and who hasn't wished for one of those on a Monday after a hard weekend of racing!)

2008 sees a major presence from the big bike manufacturers with GT, Trek, Specialized, Scott and Raleigh all out in force as well as Cannondale who make their first appearance at Earls Court this year.

The organizers will be making further announcements about the show as further guest appearances are confirmed in the final weeks before the show.
