British Cycling Supports Get Active Alliance
News Posted: 21 July 2008
British Cycling has this week announced its support of the Get Active Alliance, a partnership of 16 representative organisations involved in the promotion of physical activity and wellbeing.
The Get Active Alliance has been set up to work on a collective 'cradle to grave' solution to the nation's public health crisis and will focus on developing integrated fun, accessible and sociable activities designed for all levels of ability in a variety of environments.
Working with a range of statutory bodies, the Alliance's goal is to get more people, more active by providing a "one-stop-shop" of organisations with an ability to deliver on the Department of Health's objectives across the country.
The Alliance has submitted a proposal to the Department of Health (DH) outlining how it can implement the Department's new physical activity strategy. The group has now issued an invitation to tender for the development of a detailed work-plan.
Commenting on the news, British Cycling chief executive Peter King said: "The Get Active Alliance is really exciting initiative which has the full support of British Cycling. The Government are already showing a willingness to work with the Alliance which is very encouraging. We are looking forward to playing a key role in presenting the case for the Alliance to the Department of Health."
