New London Regional Manager For British Cycling
British Cycling Press Release: 22 April 2008
British Cycling has appointed Peter Cattermole as its new regional manager for London. He will manage a team of four Go-Ride coaches, funded by Sport England and Transport for London.
Peter Cattermole joins British Cycling after a long career in business consultancy. He is well known is the London cycling world as a track rider and as chair of Velo Club Londres. For the past two years he has also led the team of volunteers which runs the Herne Hill Velodrome.
Commenting on his new role, Peter said:
"With London 2012 just four years away, this is an exciting time for cycling in London. Everyone within cycling must work together to ensure that we reap the benefits that cycling can gain from the substantial investment in both sport and transport."
"The massive interest in cycling generated by the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in London in 2007 and the unprecedented success of the Great Britain Cycling Team at the recent World Track Cycling Championships has shown the need to develop more Go-Ride Clubs and cycling facilities to accommodate young riders wishing to enter our sport."
The London Go-Ride team will be responsible for the development of cycling throughout Greater London. The team will deliver British Cycling's hugely successful Go-Ride coaching programme in schools and at special events throughout the capital. It will work with volunteers to help the development of new Go-Ride clubs and alongside existing clubs to achieve Go-Ride Clubmark accreditation.
British Cycling education and development director John Mills commented:
"The Go-Ride programme currently supports 150 community clubs and this number is growing all the time. All of these clubs are working to achieve Sport England's clubmark accreditation, with 64 of the clubs already accredited."
Peter will also work with the London Alliance (which is made up of members of British Cycling's Central, Eastern and South East Regional Boards) and other agencies in London that work to protect existing cycling facilities and identify new opportunities.
