The Volunteer awards have become an integral and much appreciated part of the British Cycling Annual Awards evening. It's the sport's chance to thank the numerous people who selflessly give up their time in a wide range of roles to ensure that the sport happens. British Cycling's Rob Jefferies co-ordinates the volunteer awards and he has put together five compilations, each dedicated to a branch of volunteering, and each outlining some of the reasons why people have been nominated for awards. It's a fascinating insight into the world of volunteering:

Event Officials - the people who make events happen. Whether its their energy in running numeous events or their drive to improve the standard of a single event, all have that special something which makes their events stand out: Event Officials

Commissions - nominations from the various British Cycling commissions, with representatives of all the branches of the sport, plus race commissaires and referees. Commissions

Club Officials - every bit as important as the events we participate in are the clubs which draw us together and provide a focus to our cycling. And again, clubs are full of dedicated volunteers each making a significant impact on the lives of others. Club Officials

Young People - we often associate volunteering with mums and dads and riders who have retired from competition. Which is why the young people who give their time to help with the sport are so special. Young People

Coaches - we now have a great coaching culture in the sport of cycling and with their special ability to make a difference to a rider's enjoyment of the sport and personal fulfilment, coaches are also a cornerstone of cycling's success. Coaches
