Latest News on The Show

Legendary cyclist Eddy Merckx has confirmed his attendance at Cycle 2006 which takes place at ExCeL, London, on October 6-8. Eddy will be joined by other big names including GB cyclist and Transport for London ambassador Bradley Wiggins, GB cyclist Roger Hammond, world famous mountain bike and trials star Ryan Leech and three times junior world trials champion Ben Slinger. Eddy Merckx will be at the show on Saturday October 7 and visitors to the Cycle Show will be invited to ask Eddy a question about his life and cycling career in a Q&A session in the afternoon.

The Belgian bicycle racer won the world amateur cycling championship in 1964 and became world professional champion in 1967.  He won the Tour de France five times (1969?72, 1974) and it has been estimated that Eddy rode up to 30,000 miles a year in training and competition. The experience gained in those thousands of miles of training, and the passion that they represent, has gone into the design and production of the Eddy Merckx range of cycles that will be displayed on the fk:marketing stand - K10 - with brand new models for 2007.

Eddy will be joined by homegrown talent Roger Hammond who will also be at the show on Saturday. Roger Hammond was the British Road champion in 2003 and 2004 and won a stage of the Tour of Britain this year. Since the beginning of 2005, Roger has ridden for the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team but it was recently announced that he will ride for the T-Mobile Team in 2007.

Fellow GB cyclist Bradley Wiggins will also be at the show to present the Cyclesafer Challenge, a Transport for London initiative that encourages young people across London to think about cycling safely. Over 800 8-10 year olds entered the competition and designed safety posters and cycling gadgets and the shortlisted pupils will be at the show to receive their awards.

Brand new to the Cycle Show is the outdoor Mountain Bike Test Track. Canadian trials superstar Ryan Leech will be at the show with sponsor Norco and will be on the test track to offer tips and advice. Ryan is best known for his world famous Collective video, a film that featured the newest, cutting-edge freeride skills and stunts.

Once again the Cycle Show plays host to the Onza International Trials Competition where some of the world's best trials riders will compete on a purpose built indoor arena for £3,000 and the Onza world title. Eighteen-year-old GB trials rider and three times junior world champion Ben Slinger has given up a college career to pursue his trials riding which has already taken him around the world and he will compete for Onza at the show.

The Cycle Show is also packed full of the latest bikes, clothing and accessories and a whole host of interactive features for the inquisitive and energetic. For your chance to meet some of the stars of the cycling world visit Cycle 2006 at ExCeL, London on October 6-8 (October 5 is press and trade day).
