Everyday Cycling Gathers Momentum
British Cycling's New Leisure Cycling Initiative
Everyday Cycling is British Cycling's newly launched initiative that aims to appeal to the broad spectrum of leisure cyclists, from commuters and family cyclists through to mountain bikers and sportive riders. The initiative has been developed as part of British Cycling's Vision to increase participation in cycling as a Sport, as Active Recreation and as Active Living and has been made possible with the support of Sport England, Everyday Sport, and the National Sports Foundation.
The initiative's online portal, www.everydaycycling.com aims to be the one stop shop for all things leisure cycling and has the following features:
Routes and Rides - an ever expanding database of great days out on the bike. At the moment, we've got family friendly routes, soon we'll add mountain biking routes and then more challenging on and off road routes. We aim to make Everyday Cycling the place to come if you're looking for cycling inspiration.
- Events - we've also got a growing calendar of non-competitive events, from entry level family fun rides through charity challenges to hardcore on and off road epics. Take your pick.
- My Everyday Cycling - a suite of online tools allowing you to record your rides, create buddy groups with cycling mates and set custom challenges for yourself and your group. My Everyday Cycling is all about making the site your own. You can store your favourite routes, events and news in your own archive.
Focus on Activity Logs
The Activity Log is at the heart of the site's functionality and allows you to record all of your cycling in one place. Using the Activity Log is easy. All you have to do is log in, create a new log and record the date, distance and time - you can even add notes, making the Activity Log you own online cycling journal. "You'll be amazed how the miles mount up," said Eddie Allen, Everyday Cycling's Website Manager, "I commute by bike and train most days and I'm racking up over 200 miles a month! You can also record the number of cycling trips you make - journeys to work, the shops or to school or college - and keep tabs on your contribution to the Government's transport targets."
The Activity Log also allows you to set personal or Buddy Group challenges. Why not challenge yourself to ride to work 3 times a week, or do 1000 miles a month, or anything in between?
