Welsh Juniors Compete at Belgian Kermesse
After the unfortunate cancellation of the 'Star tot Stad', a Welsh Junior team instead competed in a Belgian Kermesse at De-Klijte, near Poperinge in the West Flanders region. The field had been boosted by the arrival of teams scheduled to do the other event, hence a frantic pace ensued over the nine laps of the eight kilometre circuit. Matt Rowe finished highest of the visitors, making the top fifteen with a fourteenth position, while Ross Sander hung on to twenty fifth after numerous splits in the bunch. Rob Blunden and Anthony O'Boyle both withdrew from the event after performing their team role early on, with O'Boyle being particularly active with his attacking style on the first lap.
Cardiff Youngsters in Eddie Soens Memorial
A troupe of Cardiff's young cyclists travelled to Aintree near Liverpool at the weekend to contest the Eddie Soens Memorial Handicap - around circuits of the famous racecourse. Of 139 riders who took to the line, Luke Rowe made a determined effort to cling on as the chasing groups swept up the initial starters. Rowe persevered to finish 47th, while Rachel Davies, Alex Greenfield and Lucy Richards all completed the event to finish 70, 71 and 72nd places respectively.
