Postponement of Welsh Mountain Bike Championships
Due to a late prohibition of use order by the local council at the Llandegla venue, Welsh Cycling is advising competitors that this weekends Welsh Mountain Bike Championships has been postponed. Event organiser Chris Purt aims to promote the event at some point in August when the Llandegla venue has officially been opened to the public. For confirmation of the date please re-visit the news and MTB calendar page on this web page. Further information will be posted as a date is confirmed. Welsh Cycling and organiser Chris Purt apologise for the unfortunate postponement which is due to matters outside of our control, the Union would like to acknowledge the hard work of Chris and his team to ensure the Championship will be run.
Four Welsh riders selected for the European Track Championships
Welsh Cycling is delighted to announce that four Welsh riders will be competing for Great Britain at the European Track Cycling Championships in Italy from the 19th - 24th July.
In the Under 23 endurance events, World Junior Champion Geraint Thomas will be joined by Commonwealth Games hopeful, Matt Brammeier, whilst both Ross Sander and Matt Rowe have been selected for the junior endurance team.
Both Ross and Matt are riders that have progressed through the Welsh Cycling ranks, starting with their involvement with the Robert Price Wales talent team and then progressing though the Welsh Junior team onto the British squad.
Welsh Cycling wishes all four riders the very best wishes for a highly successful event.

Sky Sports Looking for Film Footage
Sky Sports are producing 40 files of approximately 5 minutes duration on grassroots sports called "You can do it". The purpose of the files is to enthuse children and young adults, along with their parents, about the fun and joys of sport and to get them out and active. The programmes will be broadcast weekly across the different sports channels to coincide with the build up to the school summer holidays. Each week they want to see a "day in the life" of a club or activity. The programme will feature children learning for the first time and show those who live for their sporting interests. It will also show the people behind the scenes whose years of dedication make things happen. Stars of sport will also feature, however they will not, however, be the main attraction...the children will!
At the end of the programme there will be an information section where people can find out more through websites and phone numbers so you can get the most of the publicity.
On Friday night, Sky Sports attended Halesowen A & CC to film children training but were rained off before they could complete their filming and because of the tight deadline there is not an opportunity to go back.
Sky Sports are after any of the following footage to add to what they already have:
  • Track racing
  • Road racing
  • BMX - racing; king of dirt; freestyle
  • Downhill mountain biking
If you are aware of any filming that has been done for TV - especially free to air stuff in the last 5 years, commissioned by either a sponsor/event. Could you please let us know: margaretnolan@britishcycling.org.uk. Because of broadcasting rights, they really need to speak to the sources of the footage, so whilst you may be in possession of dvd's or videos, Sky Sports need to know the name and contact details of the production companies involved. Please let me have any information you may have, at present there is not enough footage to put together even 5 minutes and we could miss out!!
