Commonwealth Games Nomination criteria
Would all athletes please note that following discussions with the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales, that the nomination criteria for the Melbourne 2006 has been updated slightly.

Ross Sander takes Gold at European Junior Championships
Ross Sander has won gold at the European Track Championships in Italy. Riding as part of the Great Britain Junior Pursuit team, Ross played a huge part in the team recording a stunning 4:18 time to beat Poland in the final.
Darren Tudor, former Wales Talent Team Coach, and now Olympic Development programme coach was delighted with the result, and Ross' huge part in the ride which he described as "awesome".

Welsh riders get a further chance to impress today with another Junior, Matt Rowe, competing in the scratch event, whilst Geraint Thomas and Matt Brammeier will be looking to emulate Ross' success in the Under 23 team pursuit.

Coach Of The Year Award
Do you know a coach whose commitment and dedication should be rewarded?
If so why not nominate them for an award. The Sports Council for Wales' Coaching Awards honour the outstanding contribution made by sports coaches throughout Wales.
The award categories are:
Female Coach of the Year
Open to female coaches who are either employed on a part-time basis or are a volunteer.
Volunteer Coach of the Year
Open to volunteer coaches of any level that do not recieve payment for their coaching and have been recognised by the national governing body.
Teacher-Coach of the Year (Primary)
Open to primary school teachers who provide sporting oportunities for young people outside of curricular time.
Teacher-Coach of the Year (Secondary)
Open to secondary school teachers who provide sporting oportunities for young people outside of curricular time.
Coach to Disabled Sportspeople
Open to anyone who coaches disabled sportspeople as a volunteer or on a part-time basis.
The Sports Council for Wales Coach of the Year
Open to any coach, either a volunteer or professional.

The closing date for nominations is Friday,23 September 2005. The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, 17 November 2005.
Welsh Track Championships
A great weekends track racing was held at the Wales National Velodrome in Newport.
Congratulations to all the competitors who took part, and especially to the medallists. A full list of final placings can be found on the British Cycling Web Site: HERE (External Link).
Junior Tour of Ireland
The Wales Junior team found the going tough on the latter stages of the Junior Tour of Ireland, but gave their all right until the end.
Anthony O'Boyle finished a creditable eight on stage six, missing out in the final sprint to the line.
In the overall general classification, Dafydd Dylan was the highest placed Welsh rider, finishing the event in ninth place.

Welsh riders shine at the National Points Series
Welsh riders displayed some great form at the latest round of the National Points Series at Margam Park.
In the juvenile female category, Wales / Robert Price Talent team member, Rebecca James beat her nearest competitor by nearly a minute. The result puts Rebecca in a strong position to win the overall series.
In the Youth Male category, Rebecca's brother, and also talent team rider, Gareth James, performed strongly to finish 6th in the final placings.
The highlight of the day was the elite male category, where Welsh riders Steven Roach and Jonathan Pugh both showed good form to finish second and third respectively.

Newport Velo Youth Cycling Club Launches its Web Site
Newly formed youth cycling club, "Newport Velo" has launched a web site www.newportvelo.com (External Link).
The club based at the Wales National Velodrome caters for youth riders from 8 - 16 years of age and provides qualified coaching sessions.
The club are also involved in the pilot phase of the Go-Ride Track programme, and will be able to run Certificate Programmes once the scheme has been officially launched.
Their 1st kit presentation is planned for August 20th during the UCI Womens World Cup in Newport.
Over the coming year the club also intends to include youth disability cycling into its activities to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to enjoy the sport of cycling.
