Wales Youth in Impressive Display at Inter Area Championships
A quartet of Wales Teams attended the annual Inter Area Team Cyclo-Cross Championships at the weekend, achieving some commendable results. The event at Lee Valley Park in London saw a fast competition run off in cold conditions, with the first half lap being run around the venue's infamous road circuit. Leading in the Youth challenge was Luke Rowe, who made the most of his front row griddling to hold his nerve around the frantic start and almost achieve a top ten finish, attaining eleventh at the line. He was closely followed by Sion O'Boyle and Gareth James in 17/18th positions respectively. Rhys Kerr's 31st helped the team to fourth overall, missing the podium by a handful of points while Jessica Allen in 38th, Gemma Stimpson 42nd, Rebecca James 43rd and a mechanically struck Kimberley Richards in 45th carried the only complete female Youth team to eleventh overall. The Senior team held their 'traditional' fourth position after two top twenty finishes by Graham Rogerson (12th) and Andy Baum (14th), supported by Guy Stevens (23rd), Anthony O'Boyle (27th), Darren Williams (34th) and Richard Bowen (44th). The Veterans team supported themselves to compete at the event, returning a fifth place team finish after Graham Edwards and Clive Powell grabbed 7th and 8th with Lynn Lines in 23rd and Tony Hudson 26th.
