NEWS FOR WEEK COMMENCING 2nd January 2006

Welsh Senior riders training hard in Majorca
The Welsh senior team are currently taking part in a warm weather training camp in Majorca.

The riders, including all selected Commonwealth Games athletes are currently being put through their paces by Welsh National Coach Julian Winn and the Great Britain coaches, as part of a joint British Cycling / Welsh Cycling camp in the warm weather.

The team will be looking to build on the hard work done pre-Christmas on the roads and trails of Wales and the Wales National Velodrome, ahead of tough tours in Siam and Langkawi in late January and mid February.

Members of the Commonwealth team team will then be basing themselves out of a holding camp in Sydney in late February, ahead of flying out to the Commonwealth Games which begin in Melbourne on Wednesday March 15th.

James Berry

Welsh Cycling would like to add its condolences to the family and friends of James
Berry from the Isle of Man, who was tragically killed over the Christmas period.

As many Welsh members will know James took part in the 2005 National
Youth Track Championships in Newport, and was also a regular
competitor in the Cardiff Youth tour.
Our thoughts go to his family and friends at this time.

Commissaires workshop - Sunday 12th March 2006

Welsh Cycling is pleased to announce that a commissaires training workshop will be held on Sunday March 12th at the Wales National Velodrome in Newport.

The workshop will be run by Rob Jefferies from British Cycling, and both existing commissaires and any interested new commissaires are invited to attend this workshop which will introduce the new standardisation of the commissaries course across the UK.

The day's workshop will enable new commissaires to start the process of being trained to the level of assistant commissaire.

The workshop will also introduce the new course to all existing commissaires, and act as an excellent refresher workshop.

The course together with a buffet lunch, is free to all and will start with coffee at 9.30am.m.

To book a place on this course please e-mail Edith Clark, Administration Officer on info@welsh-cycling.co.uk  or contact the office on 01633 670540.  Places are limited and so early booking of your place is advisable

Death announced of Mr Noel Jones

Welsh Cycling has received the sad news of the death of Noel Jones during the Christmas holiday period.

Noel was President of Cwmcarn Paragon Road Club for many years and has been part of the South Wales Cycling scene for longer than most people can remember.  Noel died on Wednesday 28th December.

Details of the funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised; we will publish them on the website when they are announced.  We wish to extend our sincere condolences to Noel's family, friends and his club-mates.
