The Cross Country Mountain Bike Co-ordinator position has been vacant since the end of 2004 and there is a real risk that if no one comes forward, there will be no racing in Wales in 2006.
Similarly, Chris Landon has held the post of Road Co-ordinator for 5 years but since November 2004 has also been Chairman of Welsh Cycling. It is not possible to earn a living and do justice to both Welsh Cycling roles; he has stated that he will not continue in the Road Race post beyond the 2005 season although during handover, he will be happy to provide assistance to his successor if required.
Ideally both posts need to be filled by the beginning of September, so that the new holder can be involved in preparing the calendar for 2006. To succeed in these posts, you need:
To be reasonably well-organised
Have access to a PC and E-mail
Have a moderate knowledge of the discipline
Have an hour or two a week to spare
If you are interested in one of these posts and want to know more, please contact the Welsh Cycling Chairman, Chris Landon:
Welsh Cycling need volunteers to come forward at the Annual General Meeting in early October
If you might be interested in helping to lead Welsh Cycling by serving at Board level, now is the time to start thinking about it.
At the EGM in May, the new Board Structure of Welsh Cycling was approved by the membership. The new Board will be smaller and the hope is that its composition will be skills-based rather than the old structure, which was representative of disciplines. The aim is to create a Board that focuses on leadership of the organisation, on long-term strategic issues and that makes better decisions, more quickly. If you feel that you have business, commercial or specialist skills that could make a difference to Welsh Cycling and you have a few hours a month that you can spare, please think seriously about whether this could be for you.
At the AGM, all current Board members will resign and elections will be held to appoint a President and four new Directors. The four new Directors will then appoint a further three Directors as soon as possible after the AGM; the full Board will then elect a Chairman from among their members.
