Ross Sander wins World Championship silver
Welsh Cycling Junior rider Ross Sander has won a World Championship silver medal with the Great Britain Junior Pursuit team in Vienna, Austria.
Unfortunately the silver medal ride ended with disaster for Ross as the team crashed in the final against New Zealand, and Ross was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist.
Earlier in the day, the Great Britain Junior team, which included former Robert Price Wales talent team rider Ross, had been in superb form, qualifying for the final nearly a second quicker than their New Zealand opponents and edging track giants Australia out of the top medals.
Welsh Cycling president Mr Bill Owen stated "whilst we are disappointed to learn of the crash in the final, we are delighted that Ross has won a World Championship silver medal. Coming so quickly on the back of his and Matt Rowe's European Gold medals in Italy just two weeks ago, it again shows that Welsh Cycling has a very bright future at world level. We wish Ross a very speedy recovery from his injury"
Ross will now look to receive the best medical treatment as he aims to become one of the youngest ever competitors to be nominated to ride for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.
