Minister launches Go-ride scheme in Wales
The Minister for Sport in Wales, Mr Alan Pugh AM, yesterday launched the Go-ride cycling scheme across Wales at Bodnant Junior School in Prestatyn.
The Minister was joined by Mr John Brewer, Head of Sports Science with GlaxoSmithKline, proud sponsors of the scheme across Wales, and Mr Neil Pringle from the Sports Council for Wales.
Leading the launch of the scheme were the Rhyl Cycling club, with Go-ride coaches Maurice Broadbent and Jon Harland coaching children from the School in fun cycling activities. As well as linking the school with their local Welsh Cycling club, the scheme also trains a staff member to deliver Go-Ride cycling as an extra school activity.
The Minister said "Go Ride is a great way of introducing School Children to cycling and encouraging them to enjoy the sport as a healthy pursuit" Six Welsh Cycling clubs and twenty schools from across Wales have so far signed up to the scheme with more set to follow in 2006.
