NEWS FOR WEEK COMMENCING 28th NOVEMBER 2005
Welsh Cyclo Cross Championships this Sunday
Wales National Velodrome plays host to this Sundays Welsh Championship, which will see a titanic tussle for this years title. Julian Winn (Pinarello RT) attempts to claim his 10th title from the in-form Steven Roach (SIS-Trek). Winn gained the upper hand at last weekends Welsh event where Roach suffered mechanical problems but still pushed Winn to a sprint for the line, while Roach is currently contesting overall honours in the National Trophy series.
Of similar interest will be the race for bronze, likely to be contested by in-form Lee Williams (CC Abergavenny), Anthony OBoyle (Newport Phoenix), Andrew Baum (Climb on Bikes RT) and former Welsh League champion Graham Rogerson (Army CU). Racing commences inside Newport Stadium with the Under 12s at 11.00am, with the Youth off at 11.30, Veterans, Juniors and Women at 12.30 and the Senior/Under 23s event at 2.00pm.
Thrilling Sprint for Wales Top Cross Riders
Round 11 of the Welsh League saw Julian Winn (Pinarello RT) claim a thrilling sprint victory from Steven Roach (SIS Trek). The pair went clear from the start on a frozen circuit at Parc Cwm Darren, with Lee Williams (CC Abergavenny) and Anthony OBoyle (Newport Phoenix) giving chase.
Roach punctured near mid distance losing 40 seconds with a wheel change in the pits, while Winn seized the advantage to extend a sizeable lead. However, Roach, fresh from his podium at last weekends National Trophy, chased furiously to the line where he lost by just a bike length. Williams followed in third after OBoyle suffered a broken finger after crashing on one of the bridges made treacherous by the ice. Full results HERE
