Welsh Cycling: Youth Programmes
Welsh Cycling run various youth sessions to help young riders develop their racing skills and improve their training programmes. The sessions are run under the guidance of fully qualified and experienced coaches. Infomation about these sessions can be found below or by using the links provided:

Track
Sessions at Wales National Velodrome
Youth Structured Quality Training (Under 16 & 14's) - Track
WHAT: A high quality coached session for athletes wishing to develop fitness and competition skills on the Velodrome.
WHO: Youth A & B riders who meet Commonwealth Games selection criteria
- Born in Wales
- Parent born in Wales
- Continuous resident of Wales for at least 5 years
Riders MUST:
- have British Cycling membership
- wear club kit during session
Juniors are also welcome to attend, although non-pathway athletes comply with the coaches group activities.
WHEN: Thursday evenings, 5.30 - 7.30pm (session starts promptly at 5.30pm)
SESSION: Each month a club coach leads on the session, with support from British Cycling Talent Development coach.
COST: £2.00 payable to the coach in track centre. Those needing to hire a track cycle should enquire at reception.
OTHER: Athletes wishing to represent Wales at Road, Track and Mountain Bike events during 2011 should be aware this session is used by selectors to determine interest and athlete abilities.
British Cycling program athletes may utilise this session by arrangement, without complying with the above criteria.
Youth Improvers (Under 12's) - Track
WHO: Youth C riders who meet Commonwealth Games selection criteria
- Born in Wales
- Parent born in Wales
- Continuous resident of Wales for at least 5 years
Suitable for riders with at least 3 months track experience
Riders MUST:
- have British Cycling membership
- wear club kit during session
Youth B riders looking to improve experience and fitness before moving to Thursday sessions also welcome if spaces are available. Please discuss first with coach.
WHEN: Wednesday evenings, 6.00 - 8.00pm
SESSION: Run by Garrie Tillett, Development Coach Welsh Cycling with regular assistance from Annaliese Heard, British Cycling Talent Development Coach Wales. The focus is on improving endurance and imparting key track skills to riders who have at least 3 months track experience.
COST: £2.00 payable to the coach in track centre. Those needing to hire a track cycle should enquire at reception. Alternatively track bikes can be hired longer term from Coach.
