Do you want to make a difference in the New Year?

Welsh Cycling, in conjunction with British Cycling, is providing Level 2 Certificate Coaching training in North Wales.

Level 2 coaching courses are being held in North Wales in 2014

The courses will help to respond to the growth of clubs and other organisations and the development of cycling through schools and local authority programs.

Welsh Cycling are providing the Level 2 qualification, which is many people's starting point on the coaching pathway.

It is aimed at those who are new to coaching, but have some experience of cycling.

Coaches at this level are vital to ensure that everyone involved in cycling at the grass roots level has a positive and enjoyable experience, ensuring the ongoing future and success of cycling in Wales.

Courses involve three days of tutoring involving both theory and practical elements from a trained British Cycling tutor and experienced coach.

What will I learn?

The course is run over three days, usually with a period of eight weeks between Days 2 and 3. A large portion of the course is made up of practical activities, ensuring coaches have an opportunity to experience delivering and participating within coaching sessions.

A range of topics are covered on the course including: Analysing Cycling Techniques, Improving Rider Performance, Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Code of Conduct, Planning a Series of Sessions and Cycling Equipment.

Do I need to bring anything to the course?

Coaches are required to supply their own bike and helmet for taking part in the 'Cycling Techniques' module. Bikes used in the session should be in good working order and be capable of performing a range of basic skills (i.e. manoeuvring around cones) and have two working brakes.

Candidates do not need to be competent cyclists to take part in the activities. If you are unable to take part in this session for any reason (e.g. illness, no bike or helmet) please inform Coaching and Education prior to the course so that alternative arrangements can be made to involve you in the activities.
