Have you ever thought that you would like to get more involved in the sport and help make it happen, well now is your chance to take that first step! With the growth of Cycling as a sport, the East Midlands region is looking for more volunteer officials to spread the load across many of the disciplines.
Whichever discipline you are involved with you can be assured of a warm welcome and an interesting year along with the possibility of taking your involvement as far as you want locally, nationally or even internationally if you wish. With 6 disciplines including BMX, Cyclo Cross, MTB, Road, Cycle Speedway and Track there is something for everyone!
An ideal commissaire has:
Some knowledge of the technical aspects and the rules of the disciplineThe confidence to be fair and consistent and to make sometimes difficult decisionsGood and confident communication skills, both written and verbalA good attention to detail
How do I become a Regional Commissaire?
Step 1 - Book onto an Assistant Commissaire course relevant to your discipline
Step 2 – Complete and pass the pre-course test and the 1 day course
Step 3 – Satisfactorily complete a designated number of assessed commissairing sessions at regional level events
The aim of the one day course is to enable volunteers to feel confident that they have the skills necessary to act as a Regional Commissaire at any regional level race. Each course will cover aspects of the following and is taught in five modules:
· Safeguarding and protecting children
· Communication
· Administration
· Technical
· Competition
Full details of the course content can be found here.
If you have been an official in the past and want to get back into it or are an existing official the course also acts as a refresher to those with more experience, offering a chance to familiarise yourself with the most up to date practice and share experiences.
The courses currently available for East Midlands officials are:
Assistant MTB XC Commissaire – 4th March 2012, Venue TBA
Assistant Road Race Commissaire – 10th March 2012, Mansfield
Assistant Track Commissaire – 28th April 2012, Mansfield
Obviously without organisers to put on events we would not need any officials and with that in mind organiser workshops are also available, in the East Midlands the following is planned
Road Race Organisers - 25th February 2012, Mansfield
Further commissaire and organiser courses for these and other disciplines will be arranged as and when demand dictates, please express your interest in future courses if none of the above are suitable.
For more information or to book onto any of the above courses please contact Karen Lifford, East Midlands Regional Event Officer karenlifford@britishcycling.org.uk or telephone 07860 404834
Start the 2012 with a new opportunity - book yourself onto a course and help take the sport of cycling in the East Midlands to the next level.
