Britain’s junior world team pursuit gold medallists showed their class on the fifth day of the BC Youth and Junior National Track Championships in Manchester.
Emily Kay (Scott Contessa Epic) led a clean sweep of the medals in the junior women’s 2,000 metres pursuit for members of the Glasgow golden quartet, qualifying fastest ahead of Hayley Jones (Node4 Giordana WT) who she then beat in the final by three seconds in a time of 2 min 28.537 sec.
Emily Nelson (Halesowen A&CC) qualified third and went on to win the bronze medal ride-off for against Bethany Hayward (Scott Contessa Epic), who had risen to the challenge in the first round to deny the fourth Glasgow winner, Amy Hill (Abergavenny RC) a medal ride by 0.336 sec.
National champion on the road, Chris Lawless (Kuota-Spinergy-GSG) added the junior men’s points race title with an eight-point winning margin over silver medallist Gabriel Cullaigh (RST RT).
Joe Evans (RST RT) took the bronze after the trio lapped the field inside the last 20 of the 100 laps with two other riders to tie up the medals – Joseph Wiltshire (Cwmcarn Paragon RC) and Jake Womersley (Team Sportscover) the pair missing out on the podium.
Sophie Capewell (Lichfield City CC) added the under-16 girls 500 metres title to her earlier sprint gold, clocking 36.572 sec for the two laps to win from Charlotte Broughton (MG Decor).
Rhys Britton (Cardiff JIF) was unbeaten in the four disciplines to take gold in the under-14 boys omnium ahead of William Turnbull (Marton RT), and Jessica Roberts (Towys Riders) led a clean sweep of the medals for Welsh riders in the under-14 girls omnium ahead of Sophie Williams (Cardiff JIF), who handed her a lone defeat in the sprint.
