Latest News: SCCU Good Friday Meeting

Event: Manchester Velodrome, 22nd April

With 20 Riders from Germany, Holland, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa and Spain enhancing the field, the Southern Counties GOOD FRIDAY MEETING at the Manchester Velodrome is looking set to maintain it's reputation as the foremost open track Meeting in the country.

The Meeting, which was first held at London's Herne Hill track in 1903, moves indoors to Manchester on 22 April bringing with it the traditional Good Friday Sprint event for established riders from home and abroad, the popular White Hope Sprint event for up and coming riders and the Golden Wheel 20k Scratch race with it's £1000 winner's purse to go with the Trophy. For those who like some noise with their racing they won't be disappointed with the BPA Derny Paced race for elite riders. Keirins, Devils and a Points race make up the full programme of races.

Leif Lampater, the popular German six day and World Cup rider who has thrilled the crowds at past Revolution meetings, is confirmed to be riding both the Golden Wheel and the Derny Paced race, along with the Italian six day rider Fabio Masotti, and the current Golden Wheel Trophy holder Cyclepremier-Metaltec's Tony Gibb.

Ross Edgar, always a favourite at the meeting, heads an impressive list of sprint riders which includes World Cup sprinters Itmar Esteban and Tomeu Gelabert from Spain who recently appeared at the Manchester World Cup.

The preliminary qualifications begin at 3pm, with the main meeting starting at 5.30. The full programme of races is expected to end by 10pm and one ticket gains admission for the whole Meeting from 3pm onwards.

We also have a Vets & B SQT running (book in advance only), but one hour earlier than usual between 9:00 - 11:00am, and Derny School is back the same day between 11:00 -1:00pm. Places are limited to 24 riders, so don't delay in booking your place - booking forms available in reception. Although the sold out sign went up last week, there has been one cancellation, and three more places created, making four in total. If Good Friday Derny School sells out, and there is further demand, then Easter Sunday A & B SQT will move to 3:00 -5:00pm, and Derny School will run 6:00 - 8:00pm, if pacers are available.
