Worlds Track in Copenhagen Gets Makeover

Story posted February 19, 2010; Event Press Release

Copenhagen sands the Track in hopes of World Records
The Ballerup Super Arena Cycling Track in Copenhagen is being sanded to make it look brand new for the Track World Championships on March 24 to 28.

In charge of the work is the German Track architect, Ralph Schürmann along with his six men crew for the job. Schürmann is part of the third generation in a dynasty in charge of building more than 100 Cycling Tracks worldwide since the 1920s including the World Championship Track in Pruszkow Poland, the Olympic Track in Beijing and other Olympic and World Championship Tracks among others throughout the years.

The German architect was also in charge of building Ballerup Super Arena in its original state from 2000/2001. The sanding will bring back the beautiful light color to the wood and make it more even and faster. The organisers expect world class performances and maybe even World records. This could mean the downfall of the magical 4.11,114, set by Chris Boardman in 1996 at the 4000 metre individual pursuit, with Australians Jack Bobridge and Rohan Dennis together with American Taylor Phinney all coming very close to the legendary record on several occasions.
