Event: 15 September 2013

The John ‘Tommo’ Thompson memorial ride takes place in the beautiful hilly countryside of the White Peak and Staffordshire Moorlands. Now in its second year, the ‘Tommo’ starts and finishes from the picturesque Carsington Water. The route sticks primarily to ‘traffic free’ small lanes allowing you to take in the breathtaking countryside and concentrate on the task of climbing the tough Peak District climbs.

Organised by Dark & White Events, the people behind the Igloo - Eastern Peak sportive and the ‘truly epic’ Peak Epic, so expect the same quality well signed routes, fully stocked feed-stations and instant event timing.

This year the ‘Tommo’ is part of the Peak District Cycling Festival a week long festival running from 7-15th September 2013 celebrating the joy of cycling in the beautiful Peak District. The ‘Tommo’ is just one of 60 different cycling rides and activities that take place throughout the week.

Routes
3 routes to choose from: the challenging 125km long route ready to test the seasoned sportive rider; 45km short route ideal for any sportive newcomer; or the 76km route for anybody inbetween.  See the route maps below:

Long 125km/77 miles 2500m of ascent

Medium 76km/47 miles 1400m of ascent

Short 45km/ 28 miles 740m of ascent

The long route takes in two climbs frequently used on the Tour of Britain, Ramshorn and the legendary Cat 1 ascent of Gun Hill. The climbing does not stop there, with plenty of other tough climbs including Flash, Crowdecote, Stanton in the Peak, Riber Castle and Cromford Hill to name just a few. Both the Long and Medium routes do provide quite a sting in the tail, with a tough final 10-20km, so do not say you were not warned!
