Dowsett, who grabbed an historic third consecutive national time trial title yesterday, hopes to ride the Tour de France in 2014 as the race passes through his home county of Essex on stage three and the Summer Breeze Sportive will follow some of the same roads likely to be used when Le Tour arrives in July 2014.

"I'm really proud to be supporting the Summer Breeze sportive this year and also attending if my racing programme allows. I was keen to be involved in any way I could with such a worthy cause as the Cirdan Sailing Trust as it is an event that is very close to home for me in many senses"

This year's course has been changed in response to popular demand with a climb of North Hill shortly before the finish. This sting in the tail will make everyone happy to enjoy the hot food and refreshments at the finish! Our event photographers will be there to capture the images of riders as they reach the top of one of the best climbs in Essex. The Summer Breeze Sportive is to support the Cirdan Sailing Trust based in Essex.

Alex said, “I'm really proud to be supporting the Summer Breeze sportive this year and also attending if my racing programme allows. I was keen to be involved in any way I could with such a worthy cause as the Cirdan Sailing Trust as it is an event that is very close to home for me in many senses, I grew up both sailing on the River Blackwater and then cycling on my local roads around Bradwell with my first club, the Maldon & District Cycling Club, both sailing and cycling were ones I could take part in due to their low risk factor and my suffering from Haemophilia”
