43 year-old Geoff rides a Scott Addict and is addicted to the sportive buzz it would seem. Geoff loves the satisfaction of achievement, riding with friends and Banana Soreen and has made a mental note to tighten his handlebars before every ride after a recent hair raising experience in Yorkshire. Over to you Geoff...

Name: Geoff Rhodes

Gender: Male

Age: 43

Height: 5’ 10”

Weight: 220lb

Bottom Gear: 34/28

Current bike: Scott Addict R15

What do you take with you on a ride? Gels, Flapjack, Multi-tool, tubes, spare link, cash, phone, mates.

Why do you ride sportives? The challenge

What was your last sportive? West Riding Classic. 75 mile option

What’s your favourite event and why? Every one I ride gives me a satisfaction of achievement

What’s the longest sportive you’ve done? Cheshire Cat 2012, 104 miles in total

What’s your most memorable sportive moment? All of them are memorable but doing them with friends makes them a great memory.

What’s your worst sportive moment? Having my bars come loose on a steep descent on the Rough Riders 2012. I couldn’t reach the brake levers! (Geoff means one of these descents - Ed)

When was the last time you walked up a hill? At 15 and a half stone anything over 25% makes me cramp up and walk but not for long ;-)

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you (or you’ve seen) on a sportive? One of my mates shorts oozing foam after they got wet through with heavy rain during the ride. He looked like he had been eating washing powder!

How much training do you do before an event? Plenty, regular 35 mile commute 3 times a week, 10 mile commute 2 days a week, 2 30+ evening rides a week and up to 100 miles a weekend every week with as many hills as we can find in the Selby/York area .

What’s your top sportive riding tip? Never think you can’t do it, it’s mind over matter and there are people out there benefitting from the money you are raising who are in worse shape than you.

Favourite feed station fodder? Banana Soreen!
