We are British Cycling and we love riding sportives. A recent survey amongst British Cycling staff has unearthed a surprising amount of apparently desk-bound colleagues who, come the weekend, like nothing better than piling the bike and kit in the back of the car and heading out for a day in the hills with a few hundred (or thousand) like minded others.

Each of the motley crew at British Cycling has a different idea on what to take, what to eat and most importantly, what bottom gear to pack. Are you a 39-23 man or a compact chainset kind of gal? Do you prefer energy gel or malt loaf? Roadie minimalist or everything but the kitchen sink worrier? Send us your Sportive Profile and let us know!

Simply complete this form and email to editor@britishcycling.org.uk with Sportive Profile in the subject line and claim your fifteen minutes of fame. Feel free to attach an image or two of you in sportive mode too!

Staff Sportive Profiles

Ian Phillips - Ian loves climbing hills and approaches them with a heroic 'pro-style' 39/23 bottom gear. He's also a staunch advocate of the humble fig roll.
Eddie Allen - Web Content Manager at British Cycling and veteran of a fair few sportives. A tortoise amongst the hares.
Julie Barrett - Results Administrator at British Cycling and all-round biking nut. Has been doing sportives both in the UK and on the continent since the start of the scene.
Paul Rowlands - Paul works on major events at British Cycling and has a penchant for continental sportives, having ridden the Flanders sportive and the Etape to name but two.
Jackie Brennan - Jackie is British Cycling Recreation Manager for the North West and is a recent convert to the sportive scene. However, she chose a true monument on the European calendar for her first event - no less than the Tour of Flanders sportive!

Your Profiles

John Bennie - Meet John Bennie, whose last sportive ride was the awesome Bealach Mor event, which takes on the highest public road in the UK, the incredible 'Pass of the Cattle' in Wester Ross, Scotland.
Andy Lulham - Meet sportiver Andy Lulham who powers his rides with a heady mixture of peanut butter sandwiches and Swiss roll. Andy's bottom gear is 34/28 and his top tip is not to get too drunk the night before a big ride. Sensible on both counts!

Richard Moss - Meet our latest sportive profiler, Richard, who powers his ride on hemp seed bars and jelly beans. While his food choices are unusual, he's got some very sensible tips for first time riders.

Chris Hannon - 34 year old Chris is attempting a 180km gran fondo in May 2012, having already completed the Gran Fondo Eddy Merckx, meeting The Cannibal in the process!

Dave Pamphilon - Meet 55 year old Dave, who's discovered sportives late but is living the dream nonetheless, clocking up some impressive training mileage and conquering some big events.

Randle Edwards - Meet 55 year old Randle who's been dropped by bicycle-riding butchers, walked up Pontfadog and aspires to riding sensibly over the more entertaining option of chasing the fastest group on the road.

Ray Glover - Ever seen a gorilla at a sportive? 44 year old Ray Glover has. Appropriately enough, Ray’s favourite feedstation fodder is the humble banana. Kit wise, he prefers the ‘just in case’ approach. Very wise Ray...

Geoff Rhodes - 43 year-old Geoff rides a Scott Addict and is addicted to the sportive buzz it would seem. Geoff loves the satisfaction of achievement, riding with friends and Banana Soreen.
