Performance
The Scottish Cycling Performance programmes support riders from Talent, through to Junior to senior level across the disciplines of Track, Road, Mountain Bike Cross Country and Downhill. The programme is linked to the Olympic programmes of British Cycling whilst also supporting athletes with potential to medal at Commonwealth Games. The pioneering Downhill Academy programme is a world leader in developing Junior and under 23 riders supporting them to achieve on the world stage.
Programmes are coach led, training and racing based, and involve working with partners such as sportscotland's Institute network and Napier University to provide a range of athlete support services.
Talent
Scottish & British Cycling's talent programmes focus on providing coaching for young riders that want to be the best they can be. Riders are nominated by their club to attend Regional Schools of Racing. Schools of Racing are sessions that allow young riders to train with British & Scottish performance coaches.
Scottish Cycling also select riders for a number of races throughout the year and usually are used as preparation for the UK School Games in September of each year. To find out more about our talent programmes click here
Junior
Scottish Cycling support junior athletes that have the ability to progress to GB Olympic or Scottish Commonwealth programmes. Coaching is provided to junior riders. Athletes though have to show a strong commitment to their sport and make their own way to races/training.
Scotland runs a number of National Junior squads each year. Focussing on stage races these events have a performance focus and the strongest squad is selected based on a published selection criteria. To find out more click here
Senior Athlete Programme
Scottish Cycling's Senior Athlete Programme is a training based support programme that support athletes with a realistic potential to win a commonwealth medal in the next commonwealth Games. Athletes must show considerable commitment to their sport and have the ability to race independently in the UK or abroad. To find out more click here
Downhill Academy
Scottish Cycling run a pioneering downhill programme that is a world leader in developing junior and under 23 riders and supporting them to achieve on the world stage. To be selected athletes must show dedication to their sport and the desire to travel and compete at the highest level in one of cycling's most challenging disciplines. To find out more click here
sportscotland Institute of Sport
Scottish Cycling is now working with the sportscotland Institute network to provide support services for its athletes at junior and senior level. An exciting development of this service has been the use of experts in different fields to support the programme at training camps and events.
Scottish Cycling is also working with the Institute's Talent ID Manager to develop a sustainable programme of initiatives and opportunities to attract new athletes into the sport.
