Article By: Richard Ferguson – Communications Administrator
Scottish Cycling is pleased to publish the first website statistics report for www.scottishcycling.org.uk. It is important to us to monitor how the website is used so we can continue to improve it and find new ways of providing interesting and useful information about cycle-sport to more people.
Click here to download the first web-stats report
Since launch day of this new-style website (14th June 2010), there has been over 80,000 unique visitors to the Scottish Cycling website. Web stat reports will be created every two months and will be available to download from this page.
We have received an update from British Cycling indicating that some of our website users,as well as their own,may be experiencing ‘compatibility issues between the website and internet explorer’. For those of you who are using Internet Explorer to browse the Scottish Cycling website and you are having issues with ‘missing photos from news articles’, it is strongly recommended that you download and install Mozilla Firefox as a temporary fix, until the developers at BC find a solution to this issue.
Not only is Firefox one of the safest and fastest web-browsers available, installing it will allow you to browse the Scottish Cycling website with ease, plus, you’ll be able to see all the quality photos in the articles as well !

Scottish cycling is going through a period of rapid growth and as part of this, its currently reviewing the way it communicates with its membership.
Communications strategy is managed centrally by the Communications Commission and delivered by the Corporate Services Team. The Communications Commission consists of senior staff members, Board members and external experts and its purpose is to review the ongoing strategy, plan and make recommendations for change to the SC Board.
The Corporate Services Team is currently expanding to meet the growing communications-related needs of the organisation and members. SC has recently appointed a part-time Communications Administrator to update the website and provide assistance with other communications work areas. A part-time Communications Officer has been recruited and is due to commence employment in August. This role will coordinated, develop and deliver on communications, marketing and PR. The work plan for this role will be agreed by the Communications Commission.
Scottish Cycling has recently launched a new-style website which aims to be an interactive and informative tool for all members. The site will continue to develop over the next few months and will offer new features, including online event registration and direct reports and results uploads (for official race organisers). In the meantime SC seeks contributions for the website from its membership. All articles, reports, images and results should be directed to Richard Ferguson at website@scottishcycling.org.uk.
SC is currently developing software to allow for periodical e-bulletins and e-newsletters, in line with a desire from our members for this type of communication. The first e-bulletin will be launched in the next couple of months.
SC welcomes suggestions and ideas for improving communications and all suggestions or feedback should be directed to Sine Munro (Corporate Services Manager) at sine.munro@scottishcycling.org.uk. All feedback in relation to Events Organisers communication and packs will be collated and taken into account for next year's events calendar.

Welcome to the new Scottish Cycling Website
June 2010
As you may have noticed, Scottish Cycling has launched a new website. This includes a new member, events, results & rankings database. The old British and Scottish Cycling system had reached full capacity and was badly in need of replacement.
The new system is designed to support the organisation's plans to grow its membership and provide a better service for existing members. It incorporates a range of new capabilities, particularly in the way it supports events and event organisers and in the way it provides members with information and services.
The new system will take several days to bed in, during which there will be a change-over process including the shut down of the old system and the transfer of data to the new system. This will result in a short period during which a couple of key services will be interrupted, as follows:
1/ Results - During the testing of the system over the past few weeks a full results service has not been possible. However, all outstanding results will be uploaded as soon as possible, once the new system is up and running. Apologies for the break in service.
2/ Rankings - British Cycling's rankings are driven by the results we receive. Because of the above delay in uploading results, there will be a similar delay in the rankings being updated.
The new website is the start of big changes in the way Scottish Cycling communicates with our members and the broader cycling environment. A new Communications Team is currently being implemented with dedicated staff in place to support all aspects of communications and improved membership services.
We welcome feedback and comments during this period of change. Please send your feedback to website@scottishcycling.org.uk.
