Update 20 (Event Preview)

This weekend (22nd Aug) the Falcons face a double header of away fixtures as they travel to Heckmondwike and Sheffield for Northern League duty.

After the disappointment of losing the last home league fixture against Stockport the Falcons chances of taking the league title would appear to fallen away but Team Manager Stevie Gilroy is determined that the seasons high standards continue.

The Heckmondwike side should provide little resistance and it will be a case of saving the legs for the later visit to Sheffield who will provide much stiffer competition. Once again the Falcons will be travelling with a junior side to take on the Sheffield juniors after the senior match has finished.

Disappointingly for the Falcons it would appear that Polish rider Robert Bandosz may have ridden his last match for the club after returning to Poland several weeks ago. With no satisfactory explanation as to his unavailability for training or for team selection an official statement from the Falcons Management on the matter is expected soon.

Update 21 (After Event Report & Results)

Missing first team regulars, Jonny Murphy, Jake Slight and Robert Bandosz, Edinburgh travelled to Yorkshire on Sunday (22nd Aug) for a double header of Northern League fixtures.

First up at noon was the visit to Heckmondwike (just outside Leeds) where, as expected, the home side offered up little resistance with the Falcons powering to a 96 points to 49 victory. Juniors, Michael and Christopher Lee scoring well for the first team with 18 and 13 points respectively.

A quick run up the motorway to Sheffield was next where 1st and 2nd team matches were to be staged in what turned out to be a long but rewarding day for the travellers.

For the 1st team encounter, Sheffield were almost at full strength but the Falcons pulled off a memorable victory by 79 points to 71. The pick of the bunch for the Falcons were Newsome and Hewitson who were both unbeaten by an opponent. However, the top scorers were well supported by an overall great team performance with veteran Kennedy belying his years racing to 15 points.

The 2nd team match also proved to be fruitful for the Falcons with another fine victory by 86 points to 64. All the Falcons juniors scoring well and continuing their on track learning with help from Kennedy and McPherson.

With a weakened side, three wins in one day, meant the ever hard to please Team Manager Stevie Gilroy couldn't help but comment "excellent".
