19 out on Ladies Bike Ride - West Lothian Clarion CC

'Many thanks to all the 19 riders who made the Ladies bike ride an excellent event, and especially to Debbie, Diane and Michelle who organised the event and to Eve who helped lead the ride'.

Debbie continues the report:

I think everyone involved will agree that this was a great success. 19 riders turned up: club members Eve, Diane, Michelle and myself and 15 more ladies - I won't try to list everyone's names because I didn't catch them all.

There was a good mix of road bikes, hybrids and mountain bikes. We set out through Linlithgow and it soon became clear that the group was too large to manage, so we had a short stop at the TT lay by and decided to split into two groups - one group, mainly on road bikes, opted for the full 25 mile run, led by Michelle and brought up at the rear by myself (my normal position on club runs).

Diane and Eve led the other group on a shorter ride. The sun was coming out by this time, so most people ditched their jackets and we headed straight through Winchburgh and Kirkliston, stopping at the entrance to Dalmeny house for a snack and a bit of blether. Then through Queensferry and Hopetoun (the road into Hopetoun was very busy due to the summer fair.)

Two of our numbers left to join their families at the fair, the rest of us continuing via the cycle route and the back roads. Another Lady peeled off at Philipstoun to go home, the group then broke up a bit on the steep hill up to the main Linlithgow road. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and those I spoke to said that they would try a club run, or would come back if we repeated something like today's ride.

No stats because none of us had a working computer, but it was a very sociable, enjoyable 25 miles or so in the sunshine, on some of West Lothian's fantastic roads.
