2012 School Games

Information and Selection Criteria

Posted: 10th February 2012

This year the School Games is a multi discipline event, featuring two days of road racing at HogHill, and one day of track racing at the new London Velodrome in the Olympic Park from the 6th to the 9th May 2012.

This is a very exciting opportunity, to not only represent the region but to ride an Olympic venue before the Olympians themselves and to be part of the largest and most inclusive multi-sport event for the nation’s talented young athletes.

Riders and coaches wishing to be part of the School Games team should contact Laura Irwin at laura.irwin@scottishcycling.org.uk for an application form.

Riders and coaches must have their applications completed and returned to Laura by 12 noon on Wednesday 22nd February 2012.

Details of riders selection criteria:

* Results in 2011 Inter-regional events (road and track).

* Results in 2011 Regional Road Championships.

* Results at 2011 National Championships (road and track).

* Experience in coaching sessions at club and RSR level.

* Team work ethic and attitude based on coaches' feedback from above events.

Details of coaches selection criteria:

* Must hold a valid PVG

* Essential – minimum Level 2 coaching qualification

* Desired – DSU in Road and Track

* Experience in coaching sessions at club and RSR level.

Selections will be made in week commencing Monday 5th March 2012 by a panel chaired by the Team Manager Peter Clark.

The selectors will consider performances in each individual event within its own right, taking into account the above key selection criteria. An accumulative or average scoring / points system from all events will NOT be used as a basis for selection.

Due to the dates of the School Games this clashes with Scottish Examinations. Arrangements have been made to allow Scottish riders to sit examinations during the days of competition. Examination clashes can be found by clicking here.

Please DO NOT apply if you are unable to sit examinations during the competition.
