This summer we saw top athletes from all over the world descend upon Glasgow to compete in the XX Commonwealth Games. For many, this was the pinnacle of their sporting careers and an opportunity to shine on the world stage. The people of Scotland welcomed the biggest sporting event that the nation has ever seen, and people of all ages were inspired to dust off the trainers and participate in sports. A highlight of the Commonwealth Games for many was the cycling events – from the thrill of the track, to the speed of the road and fast paces, technical skills on the mountain bike course. To provide opportunities for all these newly-inspired young people to participate in cycling, like their Commonwealth heroes, Scottish Cycling has created the Go-Ride Legacy Games 2014.

Scottish Cycling has extended the deadline for the Go-Ride Legacy Games.

If your club delivers two Go-Ride Racing events before 30th April 2015, you can access the following:

  • Free Go-Ride kit bag worth over £250
  • Track coaching and Go-Ride Racing opportunities in Glasgow
  • BMX coaching and Go-Ride Racing at Scotland’s new National BMX track at Cumbernauld

Vicky Strange, Head of Development Scottish Cycling said, “The Go-Ride Legacy Games 2014 are a fantastic opportunity for clubs to get involved and attract new members to their sessions. Clubs will have access to a Go-Ride kit bag, crammed full of useful and exciting resources and equipment, and opportunities for their riders to access our world class facilities here in Scotland. Young riders who are new to cycling will be able to develop the skills and confidence required to take part in events, under the guidance of our Scottish club coaches.”

Gary Coltman Head of Performance Scottish Cycling, “The stars of the Commonwealth Games all need a place to start their cycling careers, and the best place for them to develop is in the club environment. Young riders will be able to experience the thrill of racing as part of the Go-Ride Legacy Games 2014, and increased opportunities to participate in cycle sport. For our young Go-Ride racers, the thrill of winning a medal is no less exciting than that of winning Commonwealth gold, and we are delighted to support this project and see the progression of these riders.”

Martin Mulholland, Secretary and Youth Coach of the Johnstone Jets said, “Our club, the Johnstone Jets, are extremely excited to be a part of the Scottish Cycling Go-Ride Legacy Games 2014. Obviously, we are looking forward to receiving the free kit bag when we sign up to deliver the two Go-Ride legacy events. For us, it’s about more than that, and with the post-Commonwealth Games buzz about cycling here in Scotland, we are already feeling the benefits. We have had lots of children sign up to the club this summer, and inspiring the next generation of top Scottish athletes is crucial to us as a youth club.”
