Each month we will be putting the spotlight on one club from each Region for the Club Newsletter. This month its the turn of the Walkers Cycling Club! Read all about the club below.

Walkers Cycling Club

Founded in 2006, Walkers Cycling Club is an Ayrshire based club that encourages participation in all types of leisure and competitive cycling. There are over 100 members taking part in most types of on and off-road cycling, with runs and activities to suit most levels of experience.  We have rock hopping mountain bike types, mud-loving cyclocrossers, roadies and trackies!  Walkers Cycling Club prides itself on having something for everyone.

The club organises evening and weekend rides at a number of local venues.  Every so often club members venture further afield – to the 7 Stanes MTB Trails in the Scottish Borders for example, or to the even sunnier climes of Lanzarotte.

Club riders from beginners to elite level take part in events the length and breadth of the country.  One of the founding members, Neil Walker has represented Scotland in the Commonwealth Games and won Scottish medals in nearly every discipline in cycling!  His father John has several Scottish medals for MTB XC and sister Fiona has had top 10 placings in the European Masters Track Championships.   Several club members are regulars on the Scottish cyclocross circuit.  Last year was very successful for the club with Robert Earp finishing 2nd in the vet 50+ series, Lorna Sloan and Catherine Logan 3rd and 4th in female vet category and Anna Walker 6th senior woman.

Social events are also a feature of Walkers Cycling Club life and we have regular off-piste activities.  Saturday rides inevitably feature a café stop.

The club is sponsored by Walkers Cycling, Iain Allan &Co, Seagate Dental Practice and Ascendancy Water.
