Team manager James Thompson has been busy this autumn restructuring the race teams, the road team in particular.

Re-joining the team after a three year absence is veteran Elite rider Martin Smith from Primal Europe. Martin is a two time National Masters Road champion, his first coming whilst in AW colours previously- he won a Scratch title (LVRC) on the boards this season, and is hoping to lead the team to success in 2013.

Joining him will be climber James Wilson (Supernova cycles), an ex Junior Trials rider, who gained his Elite licence this year in only his second full season of racing. In the break between Trials riding and road racing, he kept fit doing kickboxing!

Adam Cotterell joins from Zappis pro cycling, where he raced in Belgian 1.12B events, the Senior National Champs. Adam has been racing full-time for the past 3 seasons, domestically won 5 races and was 2nd a further 3 times last season. He raced in a plethora of continental races including the UCI 2.2 Tour of Masovia near Warsaw (getting into a winning move) & 1.2 races in Italy, Belgium, France & Portugal and his all-round versatility in road and circuit will be a huge asset to the team.

Circuit strongman Toby Neave joins from Primera-Specialized. Toby won 3 races in a season hampered by injury, but, despite this, managed to keep his elite category licence for another season. He will be looking to spearhead the team’s circuit race aspirations as well as aiding the team in road events.

Second year senior Lawrence Carpenter joins from VO2 development team. During the 2012 season, he also raced in a handful of Belgian 1.12B races and finished his season with a top 10 in the SERRL Champs. Lawrence has a mighty engine and is a name to watch out for.

Existing AW Cycles stalwart Alex Peterson will continue with the team. Alex, a canny finisher, won 3 circuit races in 2012 and is targeting the BC Masters track events and local road races next year.

Nick English, a prolific time trialler with many ‘race of truth’ wins under his belt remains in AW colours, and the team are hoping to find him helping out in a few road events next season.

Finally, Frazier Carr moves up from the Junior squad as a first year senior. Frazier spent 2012 cutting his teeth in junior stage races and some overseas events, his best being 2nd in the Haringe 1-14-3 Oomloop in Belgium. Having finished top 5 in E12 events, he should have no problem finding his feet in the senior team.

The team are targeting National B road races, aiming to gain experience in Premier Calendars and hoping to restore the AW Cycles road team back into the top 20 ranked teams in the UK. They are also likely to be seen riding charity events and sportive events for Sue Ryder (Nettlebed Hospice) throughout the season. They will be riding Wilier Zero 7 bikes and be fuelled by High 5 sports nutritional products.

The exciting 2013 AW Team is currently seeking additional sponsorship which will ensure the team achieves its goals for the season and enjoy mutually beneficial promotion and exposure in a vibrant and lucrative expanding market place.
