Clancy and Elliott to Race Warwick Town Centre Circuit Race

Story posted August 28, 2010 | Warwickshire County Council Press Release

World and Olympic Champion Ed Clancy MBE and British legend Malcolm Elliott have entered Warwick Cycle Races taking place on Sunday 5th September. The two riders race for the MotorPoint-Marshalls Pasta Team and will be an exciting addition to this years races which is likely to be the last time the cycle races will be held in the streets of Warwick.

In August 2008, Ed Clancy was a member of the Olympic team pursuit squad which broke the World record in the heats to beat Russia for the ride-off for silver and gold. On the way to winning gold the following day, the British team broke their own world record when beating Denmark by 6.7 seconds. Clancy also won gold medals in the team and individual pursuits at the World Championships in Manchester (2008).

Malcolm Elliot was last year’s runner up at Warwick Cycle Races and is an amazing inspiration to all cyclists as he is still a frequent visitor to the podium at the age of 49. Laura Vesty, Sustainable Travel Officer at Warwickshire County Council, said “It’s amazing to think that in less than two weeks time people in Warwickshire will have the chance to watch Olympic cyclists in action around the streets of Warwick. The event is well worth a visit to see world class cycle racing for free.

British Cycling and Warwickshire County Council organise the event and would like to thank the sponsors TravelWise, Carillion, Telent and Hinckley and South Wigston Cycle Centre without which the event would not be taking place.
