West Midlands Road Race League Update
Story posted August 20, 2009; Thanks to Richard Lodge (West Midlands Secretary/Chairman)
After 8 of 12 events in this years inaugural West Midlands RRL, the standings remain very closely contested. The latest two rounds were the Halesowen A&CC and Stafford GP events respectively, both with full fields proving the success of the enthusiastic organisers (our thanks again go to these clubs, organisers and helpers) and of the RRL format.
In the Halesowen event, a strong turnout of riders by the promoting club, sought to widen their lead in the Team standings. However, it was their rivals, the Solihull CC, that placed two riders on the day, making their club`s own bid for leadership. Team Echelon-Spiuk and Tunstall Whs also collected further points to remain in the hunt for team podium placings. The Solihull CC lead though was shortlived as both Mammoth Lifestyle RT and Halesowen A&CC fought back with higher placings in the Stafford GP and Russell Falder’s second place giving his team the lead by a single point.
The individual classification has seen no change with Russell Falder continuing to lead by a healthy margin. He now has a 32 point lead over the second placed rider Adrian Bird (Team Echelon-Spiuk). Adrian has made steady progress having been placed in both the recent events and has edged ahead of Wayne McKeown (Solihull CC) by one point.
With 4 events remaining there is still good opportunity for riders to score highly in both the individual and team classifications. The remaining 4 events follow over consecutive weekends:
30 August - Beacon RCC
6 September - Wrekinsport
13 September - Tour of the Wrekin
20 September - Solihull RR
All organisers would welcome further entries from West Midlands riders across the 2nd, 3rd and 4th categories. Good luck to all those taking part in these final rounds. The RRL is set to be expanded further in 2010. Any additional clubs in the Region who are interested in contributing to that programme and providing certainty of entry for their riders should contact Regional Competition Administrator, Carl Robinson (bcwestmidlandsrca@yahoo.co.uk) at the earliest opportunity.
