Castle Combe Summer Series Final

13/08/2009 – Week 15; Source: Andy Cook

This was the last night of the fifteen week series and what a great nights racing. The weather was kind for the last event and 55 Youth riders signed on followed by 102 seniors. In the under 8’s David Barber won from Llewellyn Price with Lauren Booth making sure of maximum points having been first girl in every round. The Tillett family again wrapped up the Under 10 race with Sam beating Pfeiffer Georgi and Megan James with James coming in 2nd boy with his sister Emily making it into 3rd Girl.

Once again the Under 12’s race was held on the big circuit with Ffion James showing the boys the way home in a very fast sprint winning from Thomas Finn and Etienne Georgi. The combined U14 & U16 race resulted in a crash on the last lap that led to Terry Chance not finishing due to missing spokes with a couple of the other guys who had finished high up the previous week also being involved. However, those who avoided the crash made a great gallop with Dan Marshall winning comfortably from Alex Mulvenna and Luke Cowley.

In the senior event a large contingent of Sports Beans riders added to the numbers being so high which ironically meant less work being done to chase the front two groups. The 3rds were only caught with 4 laps to go and the 4ths inside the last lap. Coming round Quarry with 102 riders preparing to sprint there was a touching of wheels and 1 rider crashed sustaining a broken collar bone. In the sprint for the line Ian Rees again showed the rest of the bunch a clean pair of heels with Marcin Bialoblocki and Hugh Wilson getting 2nd and 3rd respectively.

After the Youth events a small presentation to the series winners (tonight’s races didn’t count for the overall) at the same time all the regular volunteer helpers were thanked and rewarded for their support throughout the fifteen weeks. Marshalls: Jane and Maurice Higgs, Carol and Phil Kibble, Chris Reed, Paul Sewell, Rich Jarrold Judging: Neil Davies, General help: Louise Georgi; Photography for the finish of the senior events: Pete Bradford. Webb’s of Warmley donated cash towards a camera that has proved so useful to help confirm the finishing positions in the senior race.

Commisaires that have helped: Neil Langdon, Jim Grant, Martyn Baker, Ross McKenzie, John Coltman, John Else, Rob Lyne; First Aid: Steve Marshal; The most valuable assistance with signing on throughout the series Diane marshal ably assisted by Haley Hutchinson.; Refreshments Lydia Cook, Matt Stone & Chloe Matano

I’m bound to have missed someone so serious apologies if I have. This was the sixth running of the series and without doubt the most successful so far.
Senior prize winners will have their money sent as soon as we have added the last week’s results and sorted out the rest of the finances. As they say “ The cheques in the post….”!
