Edinburgh to Falkirk Wheel

Summary: Explore the historic Grand Union canal by bike. A safe and easy trail along a towpath, although the urban sections of this route can get busy with pedestrians and anglers.
Essential Information: You can join the towpath at any point but in Edinburgh it starts at Port Hopetoun (Fountainbridge) near Lothian Road. Edinburgh itself hosts a wealth of facilities. On the route, there is The Bridge Inn at Ratho, with picnic tables and snacks. There are eateries in Broxburn or Winchburgh but you will have to leave the canal towpath. There is a canal museum, with tea room, at Linlithgow.
Other Attractions: The Falkirk Wheel is the spectacular centrepiece of the £84.5 million 'Millennium Link' and the UK's largest canal restoration project. There is a restaurant, shop and visitor centre on site.
