PHOTO STREAM OF THE DAY'S ACTION
The final afternoon of competition saw some superb action, including three more gold medals for the GB Team.
B & IV tandem sprint semi-finals: Fachie and Storey had too much straight line speed to have to worry about their Canadian semi-final opponents, Chalfour and Dionne, riding clear of them in both heats to win by half a dozen lengths.
Jackson and Readle took their first ride against the Spaniards Porto and Villanueva with a late lunge for the line after a fast wind up in the last three laps. They left their effort late, but had just enough time to overtake in the final few yards. The Spaniards came back brilliantly to take the second heat, tracking down their opponents in the last lap and going round them convincingly, to take it to a decider. If anything the third heat was the closest of the lot, with both teams seemingly having it won on the last lap, with the Spaniards just nicking it coming out of the final bend. (see video below).

B & IV tandem sprint Medal Finals: Fachie and Storey absolutely destroyed Porto and Villanueva in the first ride-off for the gold medal, holding them off then really putting the power down with two laps to go. They were clear in a flash and with a lap to go, Villanueva was communicating with Porto to tell him to relax, the race already lost. The second heat was no closer, with the GB duo controlling it from the front and comfortably holding off the Spaniards who vainly chased for three laps without getting closer than a couple of lengths down. Fachie and Storey were simply in a class of their own on the day.
In the bronze medal ride-off, Jackson and Readle took their first heat from the Canadians Chalifour and Dionne by half a length, having been in control for much of the race. However, they were then relegated for moving outside the sprinters' line - in other words going wide and impeding their rivals in the closing bend. In the second heat, the Canadians decided to go for it with 5 laps to go, quickly got a gap and the British pairing, clearly tiring, simply couldn't get up to them. With a lap to go it was all over and the Canadians had won the medal. It was a sad end to the day for the British pairing, who had raced their hearts out and simply ran out of gas with a medal almost within their grasp.

LC1 Women 500m TT: Sarah Storey won the LC1 Women's 500m TT by a clear second from Great Neimenas of the USA. Riding with her usual smoothness and confidence Storey wound it up quickly and still seemed to be accelerating as she crossed the line in 37.430s.

Women B&VI 3000m Pursuit Finals: The all British ride-off for Bronze saw McGlynn and Hunter going off very quickly and they were soon closing down on their opponents, Turnham and Rimmington. After 2km they were in the same straight. The gap stabilized, but McGlynn and Hunter didn't wilt and they took the medal with a vey impressive 3.38.196. How they must have wished that they had produced that ride in qualifying.
In the gold medal final, the Americans Whitsell and Woddring had just over a second lead over their Irish opponents Walsh and Ryan at the 1km point. That had gone out to almost 3 seconds at 2km and from then on it was a question of whether they could threaten the world record. Looking strong right to the finish they did indeed beat their own record to finish in 3.36.362.

Mixed Team Sprint finals: The GB team of Darren Kenny, Jody Cundy and Mark Bristow wound up a great 3 days of action with a convincing win in the mixed Team Sprint event, finishing a clear two seconds in front of the runners up, the Czech Republic. It was the perfect finale and brought the house down.
The Spaniards took the bronze medal thanks to a great anchor-leg ride by Javier Ochoa, who overturned a two tenth deficit and turned it into over a second's advantage at the line.
