Morning Session: Male B & VI Sprint Qualification | Female B & VI 3km Pursuit Qualification | Male B & VI Sprint Quarter Final A | Mixed LC1-4, CP3-4 Team Sprint Qualification | Male B & VI Sprint Quarter Final B |  Male B & VI Sprint Quarter Final C

Male B & VI Sprint Qualification: It was GB pairing of Simon Jackson and David Readle, going off fourth, who really set qualification alight with a very rapid 10.683s flying 200 metres. They were a good half second quicker than any of the preceding pairings. The Spanish duo Jose Enrique Porto and Jose Antonio Villanueva then dipped under the Brit pairing's time to register 10.602. Underlining the quality of the competition, the Canadian duo then also dipped under 10 seconds.

However, GB's second pairing Neil Fachie and Barney Storey then eclipsed all that had gone before with a new world record of 10.316 seconds. Fachie and Storey were noticeably more dynamic as they came into their flying lap, accelerating out of the saddle with a smooth ease and they really ate up the lap and it came as no surprise to see them clip almost a tenth off the record, which Barney set back in 2007 with his previous "stoker" Anthony Kappes. Anthony was in the crowd and was able to acknowledge the new record along with the rest of the enthusiastic crowd.

Irish pairing Michael Delany and Con Collins were the recipients of some rotten luck as stoker Delany pulled his foot out of his pedal as they began their flying lap. They had early crashed in warm up, so it really wasn't their day. However, they were granted a re-run and became the fifth duo to go under 11 seconds, qualifying fourth in 10.857, a great ride in the circumstances.

IRISH TANDEM PAIRING CRASH

Male B & VI Sprint Quarter Finals: Fachie and Storey made their way effortlessly through to the semi-finals with two straightforward demolitions of the Germans Reich and Goljasch. In both races the GB pairing simply rode round their opponents with a lap and a half to go and rode clear to win by several lengths. The Spaniards Porto and Villanueva were similarly in a different league to their opponents, the Canadians Cowie and Simbert, winning easily in two rides. Jackson and Readle made it two British teams into the semis, outclassing the Columbians in two rides: in both they allowed their opponents to commit themselves and then just simply cruised past with a lap or so to go.

The final quarter final was perhaps the best with the Canadians winning a close first heat. The second heat was an epic, with both teams flat out, side by side for most of the final 3 laps, with the Irish just staying slightly the better and winning by a couple of lengths. They were then warned for dangerous riding, but the result was allowed to stand and it all came down to a final heat. Once again these closely matched tandem pairings battled side-by-side through the closing laps before, perhaps inevitably, there was a clash of wheels in the back straight and the Irish came down heavily, ending their involvement. Happily, both riders were up on their feet within a few minutes, with no serious harm done.

Women B&VI 3000m Pursuit Qualifying: GB pairing Lora Turnham and Becky Rimmington set an excellent early marker with a sub 3.40 ride. But they must have been frustrated to see both the USA's Whitsell and Woodring and the Irish's Walsh and Ryan just dip under their time by a few tenths.

GB's Aileen McGlynn and Ellen Hunter then set off like an express train in the final heat, going fastest at 1km, inside world record pace. They held it to the 2km point, but looked to be tying up in the final few laps and just slipped outside 3 minutes 40 seconds, to qualify fourth fastest and go into a ride off of bronze against Turnham and Rimmington. Whitsell and Woodring and Walsh and Ryan, meanwhile went through to the final for gold.

VIDEO - GB TEAM SPRINTERS GETTING OFF THE LINE

Mixed Team Sprint Qualifying: The Spanish set the early pace in Team Sprint qualification, with a very smooth and well-drilled ride, clocking 54.565. In contrast, the German trio made a hash of their ride, losing the plot and leaving their third man to ride two laps alone. Not surprisingly their time wasn't too impressive. The Czech Republic then produced a very slick ride to record 52.946, the best time with just the GB team to go. The GB team were on it from the start, and their eventual time of 50.257 was over 2 seconds faster, making them odds-on for the gold medal in the afternoon's final.
