Preview: Midlands XC Round 4

Posted September 2 2010

North, East, South and West. The 2010 series has criss-crossed the length and breadth of the Midlands, starting with Club Goldtec's secret trails in Stoke, then Abergavenny's RC's revitalized old skool venue near Hereford and OneFgear's instant classic course at Unstone. Now it's the turn of FatBoy Racing CC at Sherwood Pines on Sunday 5th September who have designed a super fun course for the series finale. With the best 3 results from 4 counting towards the final standings, there's everything to play for. Plus with ace custom designed and manufactured series trophies from BETD for the top 3 in each category, fast and close racing is guaranteed!

Here's a quick guided tour of the course from FatBoy Racing CC's top rider Steve Wood: "A steady start leads a tight and twisty tree skimming section followed by some man-made singletrack. Shortly after this riders will be faced with "The Drop mk2", a beefed up version of last years drop that is approached blind and requires ultimate concentration. A combination of rooty singletrack and a fire-road climb then takes the course over to the top of the "Downhill" run, a few rock steps, mini rock garden and two rock lined bombholes that will be sure to leave racers grinning. A final blast up the red route brings up the fastest section of the course, sweeping left and right countless times this part is best enjoyed at hyper-speed, if this doesn't put a smile on your face it's time to get a new hobby. A sandy climb followed by a rooty climb returns the riders to the arena, with the infamous log jump the final obstacle to negotiate before then fun begins all over again."

As well as busy day of racing and podium presentations, top local shop Pedal Power will be holding a one day sale, with big savings on clothing, shoes, lights and tyres alongside all the usual race day spares.
