Bradley was born in Ghent, Belgium but grew up in London near to the Herne Hill Velodrome, where he started racing at the age of 12. Track was his main focus in his younger years and his first World Championship medal came as a junior in 1997 when he won the Individual Pursuit title in Cuba.
Three Olympic Gold medals and seven World Champion titles later Bradley switched his focus to road cycling and in 2009 he equalled the best-ever performance by a British rider in the Tour de France when he finished fourth overall.
In 2010, Bradley joined the British-backed Team Sky as the team leader and in their first season racing together he briefly took the Maglia Rosa (leader's jersey) in the Giro d’Italia after winning the opening Time Trial. However, he was disappointed with his performance in the Tour de france when he finished outside the top twenty.
In the 2011 Tour de france, a clearly on-form Bradley Wiggins crashed and broke his collarbone on stage seven forcing him to withdraw. Many pundits had tipped him to make the podium in Paris and his crash was greeted with widespread dismay.
Brad bounced back though, finishing third overall in the 2011 Vuelta a Espana and winning the Silver medal in the Time Trial at the World Championships before playing a crucial role in the team which helped Mark Cavendish to his historic victory in the road race.
The 2012 season has again seen Wiggins on top form with wins in both the Paris-Nice and Tour of Romandie one-week stage races. In the latter her won the first road stage in a bunch sprint, showing a previously unheralded talent for sprinting. He then clinched victory by winning the final time trial stage.
