Steven Burke

Steven followed in his mother’s footsteps to become a track cyclist, taking to the boards when he was just 14 years old. Another young talent to rise up through the ranks of the British Cycling Team Olympic Programmes, Steven’s cycling skills span all areas. His speciality is the Pursuit and he has represented GB in both the Individual and Team version of the event. Steven can also put in a good performance in the sprints, winning the Kilo at the 2008 British National Championships.

Steven Burke made his mark on the world stage during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing where he won Bronze in the Individual Pursuit. He had travelled to the Games as the ‘reserve’ for the Team Pursuit and didn’t know he was going to compete until 48 hours before the event. Burke was on top form in the ride-off for Bronze medal, beating his pre-Olympic personal best by 11 seconds.

Steven, although absent in qualifying,  was part of the world record breaking squad in the Team Pursuit final in the 2012 Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne and can now add a rainbow jersey to his list of achievements.
