Dani was a swimmer and a runner before she was spotted at a British Cycling Talent Team testing event at her school in Southampton. As a result of this, Dani switched her focus purely to cycling and spent a year on the Olympic Development Sprint Squad. Her sprinting ability has served this endurance rider well and in 2010 Dani spent her first season as a full-time cyclist racing for Horizon Fitness RT on the road where she held her own at prestigious events around Belgium, including the world cup Tour of Flanders.
Dani’s most impressive results have been in the Team Pursuit. In her debut world championships in Apeldoorn in 2011 she brought home the gold medal with Laura Trott and Wendy Houvenaghel. In the same championships, Dani displayed her sprinting skills in the Scratch race, winning the bronze medal after chasing down the late break. As well as winning the world Team Pursuit championship title in 2011, Dani also won the gold medals in Team Pursuit in the UEC Track Cycling European Championships, the UEC U23 European Track Championships and the British National Track Championshipsin the same year.
At the UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne in 2012, King retained the world champion title in the Team Pursuit and broke the world record both in qualifying and again in the final in a time of 3:15.720.
