British Cycling has today confirmed the Great Britain team for the first round of the 2013/14 UCI Track Cycling World Cup, taking place in Manchester from 1-3 November 2013.
“I’m hoping to see some good performances across the board at the World Cup in Manchester. All of the team are looking forward to racing with the support of a home crowd again.”
Performance Manager Shane Sutton OBE
Great Britain will be represented by the same squad of riders who recently competed at the European Track Championships in Apeldoorn, with the exception of Katie Archibald who will compete for her trade team in Manchester.
The Great Britain team won eight medals in Apeldoorn, and also set the new world record in the women’s team pursuit, posting a time of 4:26.556 in the new four-women over four kilometres format.
The squad for the world cup in Manchester includes Olympic champions Jason Kenny, Phil Hindes, Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Dani King, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott, as well as current two-time world champion Becky James.
Performance Manager Shane Sutton OBE said: “We came home from the European Track Championships with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals, which has given us a solid start to the season.
“We’ll be looking to build on that over the next couple of weeks, and I’m hoping to see some good performances across the board at the World Cup in Manchester.
“To compete at an event at our ‘home’ velodrome is always a big boost to the team and it’s without a doubt our favourite venue to race at. All of the team are looking forward to racing with the support of a home crowd again.”
