About Steven:
Steven followed in his mother’s footsteps to become a track cyclist, taking to the boards when he was just 14 years old. Another young talent to rise up through the ranks of the British Cycling Team Olympic Programmes, Steven’s speciality is the Pursuit and he has represented GB in both the Individual and Team version of the event. As well as excelling on the track, Steven also represents the British Academy on the road in Italy.
Steven Burke made his mark on the world stage during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing where he won Bronze having unexpectedly won a ride in the Individual Pursuit. He had travelled to the Games as the ‘reserve’ for the Team Pursuit and didn’t know he was going to compete until 48 hours before the event. Burke surprised many by beating his pre-Olympic personal best by 11 seconds.
