About Nicole:
As an Olympic Gold medallist, World Champion, nine times British Road Race Champion and the youngest ever World Cup Champion, Nicole Cooke is one of British Cycling’s most decorated athletes.
After a remarkable career as a Junior – during which she won world titles in Road, Time Trial and Mountain Biking - Nicole turned professional in 2002 and in her first season she won a number of prestigious one day races in Europe, along with a Gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. A gritty all-round rider, she has no real weaknesses and is generally recognised to have remarkable mental strength which, allied to a matchless will to win, makes her a formidable competitor.
Her career went from strength to strength as she collected prestigious victories on the road, including prestigious wins in Road World Cup series, the women’s Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.
Following on from 2007, when she was handicapped by a knee injury, Nicole worked her way back to full fitness in time for the Beijing Olympics. Her careful preparation paid off when she went on to become the first woman to win Olympic and World Road Race titles in the same year. Her achievements in 2008 were recognised when she won an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list as well as recognition as ‘Female Athlete of the Year’ and ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ by Transworld Sport and the Sunday Times respectively.
