A talented all-round Road and Track rider Ben came to prominence when he won two national titles on the track as a Junior (Points Race in 2004 and Scratch Race in 2005). He then went on to win a Gold medal with the GB Team in the Team Pursuit in the European Under-23 Track Championships in Cottbus, Germany in 2007.

2007 also saw Ben make his professional road debut when he joined Team Barloworld as a trainee, during which time he won the King of Mountains title in the Tour of Britain. Ben then enjoyed an early Olympic debut, being selected for the Road Race at the 2008 Beijing Games. Several weeks later he went close to a medal at the UCI World Road Championships where he took fourth place in the Under-23 Road Race.

The future on the Road is looking very bright for Ben, who signed a professional contract with a UCI Pro Tour Team in 2009.
